I saw videos of the Paris rioters trying to break electric bicycles out of their containment racks. This example may explain why they were putting that much effort into it. Dangerous stuff.

The Last Refuge

Imagine you have a lovely apartment in Rue de la Republique in Paris. Your apartment is on the 4th floor so you don’t think you are at risk from the rioters. Yet they set fire to a huge bin and start throwing electric scooters into it. The explosion destroys half of your apartment.
