The Senate Republicans knew the purpose of the briefing was for it to be leaked to the media to smear them as tools of Russia and protect the Bidens.

Thanks to more documents declassified by John Solomon Reports we now know that was part of FBI op ROUND RIVER that smeared Republicans as tools of Russia and said Democrats were their victims.
