The Framers didn’t miss a lot, but here’s an example of something they did:
Anyone espoused to royalty should have been precluded from being eligible for elected office — federal, state, or local — in the United States.
The concept of a Congresswoman Markle, a Senator Markle, a President Markle or even a Governor or Mayor Markle, is horrifying.
The Emoluments Clause is not enough protection against foreign entanglements.
And since royal intermarriage has such a long historical pedigree of being used to weld or ally states together in European history, it’s frankly surprising the Framers did not explicitly ban the spouses of foreign royalty from holding offices of trust and profit, especially at the federal level.
