The Shutdown Is Over

After 76 days, the longest government shutdown in history is over. @DHSgov is back open, @ICEgov and @CBP will be funded through reconciliation (with NO Democrat votes) so liberals can’t play games with federal law enforcement funding.

To be clear, this Democrat shutdown NEVER…

With the 75 day DHS shutdown now set to finally come to an end, did anyone win?

Dems started the shutdown to demand approx 10 major reforms within ICE & CBP. They will get zero of those reforms after negotiations in the Senate fell apart, and the GOP is set to give ICE & CBP…

… another $70 billion + for three years in a second reconciliation bill that won’t need any Dem votes (on top of the OBBB money ICE & CBP are already getting).

Democrats did not succeed in defunding ICE & CBP, and they didn’t succeed in getting any reforms they had been demanding.

However, they did succeed in setting a precedent that ICE and CBP can be carved out of DHS appropriations bills, and GOP may not be so lucky in the future to go around process to fund them on their own if they aren’t in control of the WH, House, and Senate.

Caught in the middle of all this - thousands of DHS employees across multiple agencies who were hurt financially in the last 2.5 months.
