The court has issued a stay on the citizens' initiative process, preventing Elections Alberta from counting the vote on the Alberta independence petition.

However, this decision does not stop the current collection of signatures by Stay Free Alberta and signatures can continue to be collected until May 2nd.
The Independence movement planned for this.
There are still many ways forward. One option is to have a third party validate the signatures and present the results to the Premier to demonstrate the democratic mandate for Albertans to hold a referendum.
This process will not be derailed by activist judges.
