The United States Armed Forces urges civilians in Iran to immediately distance themselves from all port facilities where Iranian naval forces are operating. Port workers, administrative staff, and crews of Iranian commercial ships must stay away from Iranian naval vessels and military equipment. The Iranian regime uses civilian ports along the Strait of Hormuz to conduct military operations that threaten international shipping. This dangerous action endangers the lives of innocent people. Civilian ports used for military purposes lose their protected status and, under international law, become legitimate military targets.
