Multiple Persons of Interest Held

… We’re thankful for the assistance of the FBI Philadelphia Field Office and the local Middletown and Newton agencies who assisted our office throughout the night.

… Department is rapidly expanding.

According to sources, at least seven additional individuals are currently being held as persons of interest in connection with the incident, in addition to the two suspects accused of throwing the devices, who have now reportedly been transferred to federal detention.

Investigators are working to determine where the chemicals used to construct the explosive devices were obtained. Sources say authorities are looking into a possible connection to an individual based in Pennsylvania whom the suspects allegedly knew through a mosque, though that individual could currently be anywhere in the Northeast.

Sources also say investigators are examining possible ideological influences, including rhetoric that has been reported to resemble language sometimes associated with ISIS propaganda, though officials have not publicly confirmed any formal connection at this time.

The investigation has also extended to the suspects’ families. Sources indicate one family may face scrutiny after investigators reportedly discovered “concerning financial documents” inside one of the homes, though it remains unclear which residence they were recovered from.

Meanwhile, the family of the other suspect is said to be cooperating with authorities, with the father reportedly distancing himself from his son following the arrest.

The investigation remains active and ongoing, with federal authorities continuing to track potential associates and the source of the explosive materials.
