Pete Skandalakis, Executive Director of Georgia’s Prosecuting Attorney’s Council has entered his appearance as “District Attorney pro tempore”
This comes hours before the deadline to appoint a new prosecutor or the case would be dismissed
… time.What does this mean?

It means the judge will NOT be dismissing the indictment for “want of prosecution”
It means Georgia’s PAC is taking over as the prosecuting entity - at least for now
It does NOT mean that PAC will continue to prosecute the case
This MAY be a move to buy…
And this MAY be a sign that PAC will simply dismiss the indictment on its own.
Skandalakis will take the case on - FOR NOW - preventing it from being dismissed at this time.
“With Judge McAfee’s deadline now upon us and my review still ongoing, I have determined that the best course of action is to appoint myself to the case. This will allow me to complete a comprehensive review and make an informed decision regarding how best to proceed,” Skandalakis said in a statement.
Prediction: I know Pete and he’s an honorable man.
I believe he will wind up dumping the case as being an unviable prosecution.
He did. It is part of his job to appoint conflict prosecutors in the event of a recusal. His office can also prosecute cases in the event of a recusal. This tells me he could not find anyone who wanted the case and with whom he felt comfortable. Appointing himself is allowed.
