The UN was created in the wake of World War II to promote international peace and security and prevent another catastrophic world war. Whatever one thinks of the UN’s performance on this score, it is clear that imposing taxes is NOT part of the UN’s mandate. The ability to impose taxes and monetary penalties belongs to the world’s sovereign nation states, which are accountable to their own people. Pursuant to the US Constitution, which all of us in government take an oath to support and defend, the US is a hard NO on this vote, and we urge all other nations to join us.
