"The issue of supplying Taurus missiles to Ukraine led to the collapse of the German ruling coalition," said Finance Minister and FDP leader Christian Lindner as he explained the reasons for his resignation.
"Yesterday, Scholz proposed an additional €3 billion in aid for Ukraine, but that sum is not what truly matters. I said that if we want to provide stronger support to Ukraine, then an extra €3 billion isn’t necessary. What we need is a decision from Germany to supply Ukraine with Taurus missiles. There was no readiness for this. The only focus was on increasing our debt by another €15 billion to avoid making the necessary decisions. It was just about taking on that debt and dodging decisions. With such a careless approach to the law of the Federal Republic of Germany, I would be breaking my oath. Scholz knew this, and demanding that I agree [to this plan] was a deliberate breach of coalition integrity."
