A Safe Haven from Wokeness

”It’s a good idea to focus on traditional moral values when welcoming people who want to live here,” Putin said. The president noted that Russia is gaining more global supporters, partly because of its focus on protecting traditional values, as reported by Rt.com. He mentioned that these values resonate not only with Russians but also with “healthy people” everywhere, including in the West.

What are the traditional values in Russia?

Putin approved the state policy to “preserve and strengthen traditional Russian spiritual and moral values” in November 2022. This policy includes values such as respect for life, dignity, human rights and freedoms, patriotism, a strong family, placing spiritual over material concerns, historical memory, and unity among Russia’s people.

The policy highlights “the destruction of the traditional family through the promotion of non-traditional sexual relationships” as a threat to the Russian way of life. Additionally, the Russian Constitution was amended in 2020 to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

In 2022, the legislation was broadened to cover both minors and adults. The new law on the “protection of traditional values” made it illegal to promote LGBTQ themes, pedophilia, and sex-change topics in advertising, books, movies, and media. Last year, Russia’s Supreme Court also banned the “international LGBTQ public movement,” classifying it as an extremist organization.
